Caring for Aging Parents Shouldn’t Consume Your Life

Are you helping your aging parent only to find it’s far more challenging than you thought? Do you live close but feel pulled in every direction—or are you in another state worrying constantly?

Maybe you’re feeling guilty you aren’t doing enough, or doing it the “right way,” and realizing you’re a beginner at this. It’s okay. No one taught you how to do this—and no one taught your parent either. You’re both doing the best you can.

I help families create a clear plan so you can go back to being their child—not their overwhelmed case manager.

WHY FAMILIES WORK WITH ME

I’ve worked with seniors and families in senior living and home care for 25 years. I was once told by a client’s son that I was like a “senior whisperer.” Perhaps so. I have a grace for understanding what seniors are going through—even when it takes time to build trust.

What makes this work:

  • I meet with families and hear all the challenges, fears, and concerns
  • I organize the priorities and create a comprehensive written plan with timelines
  • We work through each issue in monthly family meetings or weekly individual calls
  • Typically within 3 months, the bulk of issues are resolved; the next 3 months we build sustainable habits

The payoff: You get to go back to loving your parent and being their child—enjoying beautiful time together without the all-consuming stress.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Point of Contact Required: Families should have an assigned Point of Contact (ideally POA) and a backup. All communication flows through them.
  • HIPAA Release Needed: I need a signed HIPAA release to communicate with healthcare providers.
  • Not a POA: I do not manage finances. I can recommend professional resources for estate planning, trusts, or financial management.
  • Backup Plan: Families should have a backup person in place when I’m unavailable (vacation, illness). I’ll notify you in advance whenever possible.
